Hampton & Pigott LLP calls upon retired Green Beret and Judge Advocate Damian Horne when needed to support Hampton & Pigott’s military defense team. Mr. Horne is one of the nations premier military and civilian defense attorneys. As a capital-offense-certified senior trial counsel with the New Mexico Public Defender’s office, Mr. Horne has defended individuals charged with murder, rape and forceable sodomy, sexual assault, child sexual abuse, conspiracy (crime rings), distribution of drugs, distribution of child pornography, wire fraud, extortion, assault, bank fraud, and arson. As a Judge Advocate, then Major Horne assisted the Office of Military Commissions with the defense of high-value 9/11 defendants Khalid Sheik Muhammed and Abdul al Nashiri.
Mr. Horne earned his law degree from the College of William and Mary School of Law. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of New Mexico. Prior to becoming a lawyer and Judge Advocate, Mr. Horne served as a Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, and Operations Officer with 2/87th Infantry. He also served as a Team Leader with 11th Special Forces Group and an Executive Officer with 12th Special Forces Group. Mr. Horne’s military awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit (Pending), Soldier’s Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Special Forces Tab, Ranger Tab, Jumpmaster (Senior Parachutist), Air Assault, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Joint Achievement award, Good Conduct Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal w/star, Afghanistan Campaign, Overseas Ribbon (4), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Achilles Dagger (Special Operations Level II).
Mr. Horne is a member of the following professional organizations and bar associations: Life Member Disabled American Veterans and Life Member Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is a Board Member of “Support a Soldier” 501(3)(c) Charity, and he is a past Chaplain/Life Member of Montezuma Lodge Number 1, AFAM.
Mr. Horne is married with two beautiful children. He enjoys gardening, reading, and writing. Mr. Horne is also an ultra-marathoner. He has completed over 30 marathons and ultra-marathons including Pine Crest 100, Bataan Memorial Death March, Leadville 100 Ultra Marathon, and he has run the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim and Back five times . Mr. Horne is a Sandan (4th Degree Black Belt) in Okinawan Shorin Ryu Karate.
